Happenings: Overview of The Ohio State University
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, ranked #3 among 104 academic medical centers, is one of America’s largest and most comprehensive universities and is home to more than 20 research centers and institutes and 25 core research laboratories. OSU is one of only 12 medical centers in the nation to receive the 2016 UHC Quality Leadership Award from the University Health System Consortium. Another important resource at OSU is the Center for Translational Science (CCTS) that was created to speed the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical therapies to improve human health. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded a multi-year Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) grant to OSU, along with Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) which serves as the pediatric institutional partner, to fund CCTS.
OSU Wexner Medical Center’s Patient/Family Experience Advisor Program provides access to 18 Patient/Family Advisory Councils in areas including Primary Care, Inpatient Care, Oncology, Autism Services, Labor & Delivery, and Surgery and serves as a resource for researchers to connect with patients/family members who have a specific diagnosis and available to serve on research design committees. Also, the OSU-Clinical Center for Translational Science engages faculty, staff, and students from across OSU and Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) to create a diverse and inclusive community. OSU broadens team science to actively engage a broad range of stakeholders. OSU participated in several clinical and research studies such as ADPTABLE, INVESTED, PCSK9i, Pre-diabetes study, TVTR, etc.
OSU’s CDM represents two key data sources: i) healthcare system with ~950k individuals and nearly 13 million encounters in the past 5 year; ii) health insurance provider with data that has been linked to the PCORI CDM. OSU has dedicated resources that allow the data validation reports to be run under 2 hours and expertise to ensure ongoing support and maintenance. OSU has passed all data curation packages; responded to all requested queries since joining LHSnet and more recently as part of PaTH network.
